Golden Key

Ryerson sent me a letter stating that I’ve been recognized as one of the top 15% in Computer Science. I guess thats in the entire Computer Science in Ryerson. Thus they are inviting me for this Golden Key International Honor Society. Kinda like an Elite club I guess for geeks and nerds. lol :embarass: Membership is by invitation only. Members have perks like scholarships. They get a personalized Golden Key member card and job opportunities from various companies (like IBM and Scotiabank) who sponsor them. Honeslty there would so many members in this club that even if I tried out for a scholarship, I wouldnt get it. So furthermore, they have a celebration in November if I want attend. Cool, I thought, until I read the brochure… $90 fee… :irked: I thought it was free. I guess all they wanted was my $$… :yuck:

It could be cool though, it might look good on your resume as well.

That’s good that you got picked in the top 15% but it does sound like all they wanted was your money, which is a stupid scam. Sorry they tried to do that. :(

:) That’s great for you. We have a society like that over at my school – except it’s for high achievers all around, you know?

Yeah, people have been doing alot of things to keep 9/11 from happening again. I just remembered yesterday :/ And we had a moment of silence in classes. It just made me recall.

That’s so amazing that you got invited to that, bad that they want $90.00, but understandable. It is a membership after all. Congratulations either way.

Sounds like the “Who’s Who Among American High School Students”. Boy was that a major rip off.

Sounds like a good opportunity, job offers are always great. Especially ones which are favorable.

Perhaps you can reply back saying how you would be very interested in attending the banquet, but of course the fee is too expensive.

I agree that it could look good on your resume.. but it sucks that there’s a fee. That seems stupid. Congrats on being in the top 15% though!

You know, that’s really neat, but the fact that they want you to pay for it really irks me. Like a scholarship that you have to pay for the application process… They shouldn’t make money on stuff like that. *shakes head* It’s still awesome that you were invited, very awesome.

    Ooh well done.
It sucks that you have to pay.
    That’s just plain stupid :sowhat:
